HQ Course Description: Do you love drawing your favorite superheroes and supervillains? Is your imagination full of strange creatures and spectacular landscapes? If the answer is yes, pick up a pen and join artist Suzanne Goldenberg on a journey into the artistic aspect of comic books, with special attention given to line, color, and visual storytelling. You’ll take a close look at outstanding examples of comic book art and spend time developing your own story with characters, backdrops, and complete panels. Improve your skill as an artist, be creative and dive into the world of comics! Each student will self-publish their comic book and share in our collective book launch at our final class.
Every student’s comic book story will have a narrative arc. Through shared low key discussion, kids will explore the history and the culture of heroes in everyday life – while drawing on the ideals of social justice themes. Students will keep journals as they explore and sketch story development. In each class students will share with each other and exchange positive critique and or inquiry. We are all in it together.
