For Our Tweens and Teens
Superhero themes are not just for little kiddies. HQ dives into what it means to be a hero – a super-hero that might be someone in your community, in your family, or you – yourself. Why not? Whereas the younger HQ Academies may work with more traditional ideas of the superhero, our tweens are asked to think deeper.
o Community Service: HQ is committed to serve the communities our super kids - super families - live in. Through organized HQ courses with a theme, students have the opportunity to share their own experiences and their communities stories to make other aware and to ultimately make a difference - whether it be depicted in a comic book or graphic novel, a play (to be acted out by members of the HQ community), or by designing a superhero to represent the cause they wish to support.
o Independent Projects: HQ will try to accommodate new ideas for possible courses to teach our HQ community, but sometimes these ideas may be very specific and better represented through individual projects that may be linked to local schools for credit.
o HQ Teacher’s Aids: It’s a win win situation for the older student and the teacher instructing their HQ course to have a Teacher’s Aid. Plus it looks good on the college resume’.
o HQ Mentor: Giving the opportunity to an individual the chance to be there for a younger kid is good for all and HQ wishes to help nurture the chance for kids to help support one another through the mentoring in the form of guiding younger super kids through their HQ “Your Mission Assignments” or post Pandemic, to walk them to their after school program, or just to be there to listen and support.
o Internship Opportunities: In the near future HQ will be connecting with other programs to create opportunities for Internships to learn a local craft.
o More Advanced HQ Course: HQ courses that are mindful of the older HQ academies such as “Guardians” (Ages 13-15 yr. olds) and the “Elders” (16-18 yr. olds) will set higher goals to achieve and thus gain a higher degree of accomplishment and self respect.
